A practical, one-page checklist — nothing fancy, just what actually matters before, during, and after your move.

3–4 Weeks Before

☐Book your totes — earlier gets you first pick of delivery dates, especially on weekends.
☐Start a room-by-room inventory of anything unusual (fragile, valuable, or oddly shaped items) so you can plan how to pack it.
☐Use up food you don't want to move — plan meals around what's already in the pantry and freezer.
☐Research and book movers if you're hiring help — good ones get booked up weeks out.
☐Start a folder (physical or digital) for moving-related paperwork: lease, mover's contract, address-change confirmations.

☐Pack everything you won't need before moving day — out-of-season clothes, books, decor, extra kitchenware.
☐Label totes by room, not just by category — makes unpacking dramatically faster.
☐Set aside one clearly-marked tote for "first night" essentials: toiletries, chargers, a change of clothes, basic tools.
☐Update your address with your bank, employer, and anywhere else that matters — the post office forward takes a few days to kick in.
☐Schedule utility disconnect/connect dates for both the old and new place.
☐Confirm your delivery window for the totes and make sure someone will be around, or that they're accessible for our driver.

☐Finish packing everything except what's in your "first night" tote and anything you're using that morning.
☐Do a final walkthrough of closets, cabinets, and drawers — these are where things get forgotten.
☐Charge your phone and any tools you'll need (drill, flashlight, etc.).
☐Confirm timing with movers, if you hired them, and double-check your tote pickup date is what you expect.
☐Set aside cash or a card for tipping movers, if applicable.

☐Do one final sweep of every room before totes leave — check behind doors and under furniture.
☐Take a quick photo of any meter readings if you're responsible for final utility bills at the old place.
☐Keep the "first night" tote with you, not on the truck — you'll want it before anything else gets unpacked.
☐Do a walkthrough of the new place before unloading, so you know where big furniture is actually going.
☐Leave totes accessible (not buried behind furniture) once emptied — makes pickup quicker.
